Teenage alcoholism. How can you convince a teenager who just started drinking to give up this dangerous habit?

Drinking isn't necessarily a dangerous thing to do. If it does become habitual and addictive, then it can be dangerous. If you think that you are going to convince a teenager to never drink, you will most likely end up with a teenager who drinks behind your back. It would be more realistic to teach him or her about the *potential* dangers, and how to drink responsibly. And prior to dismissing me as someone who blindly supports what you call a ';dangerous habit';, consider that I haven't had a drink in 18 years.

PS. Why have you just asked this question four times in a row? Are you truly seeking advice for a teen, or are you trying to pass your beliefs onto the good people reading your questions?Teenage alcoholism. How can you convince a teenager who just started drinking to give up this dangerous habit?
Show him a few scary movies in regards to alcoholism may scare him a little or get him so drunk that he has a hangover for days and so sick.

It often goes unnoticed that most alcoholics aren鈥檛 even of legal age to drink. Teenagers need to realize drinking can only cause or add to the problems one already has. Teenagers also need to realize these problems not only affect them but everyone around them. Take them for a WALK through a part of town where there are a lot of people that have lost everything from drinking. Take them to an AA meeting and talk to some people that alcohol has caused them nothing but trouble. Take them to talk to someone that has been in an accident with a drunk driver, preferably a teenager, so they can see first hand the affects of alcohol.
dont get them to stop

teach them senible drinking
Teenagers think they're invincible and ';adult rules'; don't apply to them (yet). Visiting a rehab clinic for teenage alcoholism and even an ALA-Teen (part of Alcoholics Anonymous) meeting might help. Ala-teen is a support group for children of alcoholics, they'll tell it straight from a teens point of view. Worst case scenario, a supervised visit to the local morgue may get the message through.
Sex.

Seriously, I've know mates of mine give up ale because:

1. They're getting a beer belly, b*tch t*ts n a double chin so women stop fancying em.

2. They've met older blokes who eat viagra like smarties because the ale stops them from getting a hard on.

3. Women moan to them about clumsy drunken performances in the bedroom n ale breath.

It's not stopped me from drinking, but I'm not highly sexed, 2 mates of mine are virtually tee-total now tho.

He'll be off the ale n onto the more popular n cool drugs like E's, dope n coke in no time.
Take him to a bar in the South on Saturday night. Someplace like Westmoreland Tn and show him what his life holds for him.
it's called intervention, family and freinds get together ,with the teen and a professional, maybe a reformed acholic and start talking !
I taught in a high school where alcohol was primarily the drug of choice. When our star football player who had a college football scholarship totalled out his truck while drinking, we displayed his crushed vehicle on the school grounds. We videoed the graduation of him crossing the stage in a wheelchair. No sermons, no discussion... I won't say it caused our kids to quit, but it DID start a major discussion among them.
Tell them that they could get totally addicted, get drunk and then drive and kill themselves. Or drive with someone in the car and kill the other person. Then they will probably be sent to prison.
call the police when they are drunk get him her in trouble,
put them in rehab.
